you've got a package

So this may sound crazy but I knew how I'd break the news to Ryan that "we" were pregnant a looooong time ago. I've always been a planner/dreamer for all the monumental things my grown-up life would include. No joke, I was looking at wedding magazines and baby name books when I was like, 11. So when the time came to cross "how to tell my husband I'm pregnant" off the list, I was ready.

Ryan is constantly getting packages in the mail. A car part here, a motorcycle part there, there's usually a box sitting on our front porch just begging to be opened. And just as much as the package can't wait to be opened, Ryan is just as excited to open it. There's no denying that opening something, even if you already know what it is, is as exciting Christmas morning. So my plan was to get a couple pregnancy books and wrap them up with the positive pregnancy test in a postal box addressed to Ryan. I wanted him to be caught completely off guard and surprised. I definitely achieved that!

Ryan got home from work and just as I had planned, came walking in the front door holding the package that was left on the front porch. He came in, said hi to me and the pups and set the package down on the coffee table.
me: "whatcha got there babe?"
ry: "I don't know, I already got the stuff I ordered"
As he starts to open the box I can tell he sees something and starts to become apprehensive. At this point I'm smiling ear to ear and he's looking at me like I'm crazy
ry: "Heather, what is this?"
me: "I don't know" (all the while, giggling)
He continues to open the box and finally sees the positive pee stick. Head shoots up instantly
ry: "really? like really?"
me: "yup! I peed on it this morning!"
ry: "holy cow!"

Followed by shock and at a loss for words for a good 5-10 minutes. It was fun. surprising him was fun. I wonder how eager he'll be to open the next package he gets in the mail?

Heather, Just read your blog. Loved it. So glad you're keeping it and so happy about your baby girl. I think about your mother all the time and what she's missing. Life just isn't fair all the time but bringing a beautiful little girl into the world is making her so happy, I know she knows. She knew everything about everyone! I'm glad you have a good outlook on life, have a great marriage and will make a wonderful mommie. Love you, Toni Oh and you'll make up for your mom and just buy her double all the beautiful clothes. Love, Ton
